Sharples Environmental Services attended the IAIA Climate Change Symposium at the CTICC in Cape Town from the 26th of September to the 28th of September 2022. The event hosted environmental and sustainability consultants, lawyers, climate change specialists, social consultants, regulators, government officials, scholars and so many more from all over Africa including a few guests from international countries like America and the United Kingdom.
Sharing their knowledge and encouragement special guest speakers included the City of Cape Town’s mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, the IAIA President elect Edith Birungi Kahubire, Presidential Climate Commission COO Thuli Khumalo, Planning Green Futures’ Peter Nelson as well as IAIA Climate Change speakers Weston Fisher and Ahmed Sanda.
The purpose of the symposium was aimed at identifying best practices and innovations for integrating climate change into decision-making frameworks. This was an informative experience where we had the opportunity to engage in discussions regarding resilient and low carbon cities, and Africa’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.
At the Gala Dinner, Sharples Environmental Services’ Environmental Consultant -Ameesha Sanker – won a Mandela 90th Birthday R5 Coin.
The symposium has inspired us to continue to integrate climate change considerations into our assessments and we look forward to doing our part to contribute to Africa’s transition to low-carbon cities.
