Outeniqua Sensitive Coastal Area Permit Applications

Authorisation of activities in the Outeniqua Sensitive Coastal Area that may have a detrimental impact on the environment, are controlled by the Regulations regarding identified activities concerning the Outeniqua Sensitive Coastal Area (G.N. R. 881 of 1996), made under section 26 of the Environment Conservation Act, 1989 (Act. No. 73 of 1989). The identified activities are contained in GN. R. 879 dated 31 May 1996, and include disturbance of vegetation, dredging, dune stabilisation and earthworks.

The permits are issued by local authorities, such as the George Municipality, South Cape District Council, Wilderness Transitional Local Council, Knysna Municipality and Groot Brak River Municipality, within their area of jurisdiction.
