SES Celebrates World Oceans Day with a Beach Clean-up

Sharples Environmental Services celebrated #WorldOceansDay, on 8 June 2022, by cleaning up Derdesteen beach, Blaauwberg Nature Reserve.  The World Oceans Day theme this year is “Revitalisation: collective action for the ocean.” The theme is a reminder of our collective duty to protect and revitalise the ocean as a life-sustaining system.

In South Africa, we celebrate World Oceans Day to highlight the considerable challenges we face in dealing with marine pollution, maintaining the oceans’ capacity to regulate the global climate, supply essential ecosystem services and provide sustainable livelihoods and safe recreation.

As an expression of our shared responsibility to protect our oceans the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act 24 of 2008 ensures our actions and use of natural resources in coastal zones are socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable.
